At the United Nations Wednesday, the executive leaders of leading artificial intelligence companies pleaded with world leaders to regulate AI technology because it could become a risk to humanity, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Speaking before the U.N. Security Council, executives such as Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, admitted the industry should not be trusted to self-regulate.
“If managed poorly, I even believe AI could be a risk to humanity as a whole,” Amodei said.
Altman concurred by saying, “We could lose control of the future to AI.”
British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said world leaders should take their message seriously and establish a set of global standards.
Miliband said AI should be the main topic among G20 nations. The next G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held Dec. 14-15 at the Trump National Doral Miami resort in Doral, Florida.
