Cyberattacks continue to be a burden in the digital age.
In the latest cyberattack, Exact Sciences’ legacy cancer diagnostics business was targeted, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
“Abbott is investigating a cyber incident in which there was unauthorized access to a limited number of internal systems in our Cancer Diagnostics business only,” the company said in a statement Thursday. “This does not impact any business operations, product or product availability, manufacturing or lab operations, or our ability to serve patients.”
Abbott is the parent company of Exact, acquiring the Madison cancer diagnostics firm in March.
Hacker group ShinyHunters said it was responsible for the attack, threatening to publish 30 million rows of personal data, including 1 million Social Security numbers.
ShinyHunters has claimed to be behind other high-profile cyberattacks, including educational software Canvas.
