Gov. Tony Evers endorsed Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley on Saturday to be the next Wisconsin governor.
The primary to decide who the Democratic candidate will be is Aug. 11.
Crowley had recently dropped out of the race earlier this month, but is back in after Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez withdrew from the race last week. Rodriguez ended her bid after firing her campaign manager due to mismanagement of campaign funds.
“He’s created thousands of new jobs, cut the county’s local carbon emissions in half, and passed a balanced budget, all while delivering the largest property tax cut in the county’s history,” Evers said in a statement announced on social media.
In addition to Crowley, the Democrats vying in the primary include state Sen. Kelda Roys, state Rep. Francesca Hong, former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes and former Department of Administration head Joel Brennan. Missy Hughes, former CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., also ended her bid.
