In a letter to Wisconsin’s Congressional delegation, Gov. Tony Evers called on each member to pass a surface transportation reauthorization bill that would invest in Wisconsin’s roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects.
The letter comes as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a Biden-era infrastructure law that authorized $1.2 trillion for transportation projects, is set to expire at month’s end.
Evers said the package would maintain funding levels equal to or greater than the Biden infrastructure law, expand passenger rail at a time when Wisconsin plans new Amtrak service and continues to expand electric vehicle charging facilities.
“We’ve made significant progress over the last seven years thanks to historic federal and state investments, but there is much more work to do,” Evers wrote. “As such, I write to again emphasize the importance of timely passage of federal surface transportation reauthorization legislation as the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) approaches its end and to highlight specific policy priorities for our state.”
