Gov. Tony Evers on Thursday ripped President Donald J. Trump and congressional Republicans for policies that he said have resulted in a 16% drop in enrollment in the Affordable Care Act in Wisconsin.
Citing a new report by KFF, formerly known as the Kaiser Family Foundation, Evers said Trump and every Republican member of the state’s congressional delegation are accountable for “kicking thousands of Wisconsinites off their healthcare coverage” on the Affordable Care Act by failing to extend tax credits that made healthcare more affordable.
Evers said the decline comes after back-to-back record-breaking years of enrollment in the ACA in Wisconsin.
The KFF report said ACA enrollment fell 12% nationally and in every state except New Mexico, and it projects that nearly 4 million people will lose coverage by 2027.
“Here in Wisconsin, that’s about 45,000 Wisconsinites who have been priced out and kicked off their health insurance thanks to President Trump and Republicans in Congress, including every Republican member from Wisconsin,” Evers said in a press release.
That would include Congressman Tom Tiffany, who is the Republican nominee for governor. Tiffany’s opponent in the governor’s race is Evers-backed Democrat David Crowley, the Milwaukee County Executive.
Evers said since the start of President Trump’s second term in January 2025, Wisconsinites who get their health insurance through the ACA are paying over $3,500 more for coverage.
