Gov. Tony Evers Monday put the blame for higher costs for back-to-school supplies on President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress.
Evers, in a statement released the day before many Wisconsin public schools will start the 2026-27 school year, said GOP policies are at fault for driving up costs for working families and their children.
The governor cited a new study by the Century Foundation that said families will spend 10.7% more this school year, nearly $4,000 per child, than the previous school year.
Quoting parents, the study claimed that some plan to borrow money to finance the purchase of back-to-school items.
