The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Dominance Financing on Wednesday announced the financial close of a $5.1 billion loan package to Alliant Energy.
The agency said the loan package will add more than 2.6 gigawatts of new or upgraded power generation and more than $1 billion in electricity cost savings to Alliant consumers in Iowa and Wisconsin.
The loans would support new natural gas-fired power plants, energy storage systems, and upgrades to existing generation facilities — enough to power the equivalent of nearly 2 million homes.
Alliant Energy provides energy to approximately 1 million electric and 430,000 natural gas customers in Iowa and Wisconsin.
