A zoning map amendment that would have allowed plans to build a truck repair shop in the town of Vienna was rejected by the Dane County Zoning and Land Resources Committee, according to the Star.
Madison Spring had applied to change the zoning of a site at the corner of Patton Road and Hwy. V from farmland preservation to heavy commercial in order to build the 37,000-square-foot repair shop.
The committee found the proposal “failed to meet the mandatory findings” of the Dane County zoning code and said heavy commercial zoning “is not listed as an approved category for transitioning out of farmland preservation.”
The news comes after many area residents expressed opposition to the development proposal, with many citing concern about habitat loss for migrating bird species.
The committee also said the property’s proximity to “the high-quality, rare prairie/pothole emergent marsh complex” could put the area’s “natural hydrology and wildlife habitat” at risk.
