While not quite at a threat level of Starship Troopers insects, ticks are latching onto people more often in the wilds of Wisconsin, prompting Dane County to take action

A rise in ticks is a concern because the diseases they carry pose a potent problem.

Wooden posts and signage at three parks remind and instruct people to check for ticks. The sites will include tweezers and a jar of propylene glycol, which kills ticks, the Wisconsin State Journal reported

The ticks can be imprisoned within the jar, and those who removed them can scan a QR code to take a survey and submit information, like photos, to the county.

The stands are located at Indian Lake Dog Park, Pheasant Branch Conservancy and Warner Park, and will be rotated to different parks.

In April, there were 35 cases of tick-borne diseases reported at local emergency rooms, compared to 17 in April 2025
