In late April, the Emerging Leadership Board with the UW Carbone Cancer Center held a lab tour at the Morgridge Institute for Research located in the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery building in downtown Madison. The tour was led by Dr. Melissa Skala, whose lab uses photonics-based technologies to develop personalized treatment plans for cancer patients, including breast, pancreatic, colorectal, neuroendocrine, oral, and other cancers. Dr. Skala gave a brief presentation to the group to provide background on the work her team does, and then the visitors toured the lab to get a hands-on look at some of the research they do on a day to day basis.
