Mounting costs and constant debris clogs are cited as the reasons why the city of Madison will abandon a clean-beach system along Lake Mendota at Warner Park, according to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal.
The $90,000 system, which was supposed to wall off a section of Lake Mendota, was installed five years ago to provide Madison families with clean and safe opportunities to swim, but it has not worked as intended due to mechanical issues.
The cost of maintenance was cited in the city’s decision to scrap the system, which was not installed for the 2025 or 2026 summer seasons after damage was reported to a curtain that was supposed to prevent the accumulation of debris.
