Catholic Charities of Madison on Monday announced that Brian McDaniel, a former executive for American Red Cross of Illinois, became its executive director Oct. 1.

McDaniel succeeds Shawn Carney, who led the Madison organization for five years and will remain in a transitional role.
Catholic Charities of Madison serves people across the 11 counties of the Diocese of Madison.

“Our work began in the days after World War II, helping immigrants, the poor and the displaced,” McDaniel said in a press release. “That heritage is something special, and it is why I am honored to build on the work of Shawn Carney and his team.”

At the American Red Cross of Illinois, McDaniel served as regional director of services to the Armed Forces and international services.

While there, he supported service members, veterans and military families and conducted casework for immigrants.

Before that, McDaniel directed a $2.1 billion public investment portfolio as deputy treasurer and chief investment officer for Will County, Illinois.
