Corn yields have been too great this year, according to a WPR report.

Wisconsin’s growing season was a strong one, and now mounds of corn at some grain elevators can’t find their way inside the storage units.

WPR reports that United Cooperative has millions of pounds of corn sitting in its parking lot north of Appleton. Several grain elevators are at capacity, resulting in the piles of corn dotted around the state.

Piles of corn are unusual at harvest, with some yields 20 to 30 bushels over the record highs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts a 13% increase in corn production from 2024 both nationally and in Wisconsin.

Some corn producers are holding on to soybeans due to market challenges presented by President Donald Trump’s tariffs, which have complicated corn’s storage needs.
