Art House 360 recently received approval from the city of Verona’s Common Council for additional funding, according to The Verona Press. The local nonprofit, which is renting the former New Century school building at 401 W. Verona Ave. from the city for $1 per year, discovered structural items requiring replacement.
The organization accepted the historic structure in “as is” condition and expected roughly $1.3 million in renovations to make the space habitable. It set a fundraising goal of $3 million and, to date, has raised $1.6 million, including $750,000 from the city’s Tax Incremental District (TID) 9.
Building renovations are anticipated to wrap up by November’s end, but unexpected items like leaks and failing concrete have added around $71,000 in necessary repairs. Art House 360 used private donations to fund those items but is requesting additional TID 9 funding to reimburse the costs, as they relate to the building’s structure.
