UW-Madison officials, faculty, students, donors and alumni will join with state officials and industry partners for a ceremonial groundbreaking event for the Phillip A. Levy Engineering Center on Thursday, April 17. The $420 million state-of-the-art teaching and research facility will allow the UW-Madison College of Engineering to accommodate booming enrollment and foster industry partnerships.
In March 2024, Gov. Tony Evers gave final approval to fund a new building on the campus of UW-Madison’s College of Engineering. The approval followed the state Legislature’s sign-off providing $197 million in support of the building’s construction.
In September 2024, UW-Madison announced a historic gift to the university to support construction of the new Engineering Building. The gift, from alumni Marvin and Jeffrey Levy, is in honor of their brother, Phillip A. Levy, who was also an alumnus. The $75 million gift is the largest in the UW-Madison College of Engineering’s history and one of the largest-ever private donations to the university.
Construction of the eight-story facility will provide hundreds of thousands of square feet of new space for research, teaching and industry collaborations. The Phillip A. Levy Engineering Center will allow the College of Engineering to expand its enrollment to 5,500 undergraduates.
