Wisconsin and Kenosha officials on Monday announced a Microsoft project which will develop a data center on land northwest of Interstate 94 and Highway 142, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The data center will be built on roughly 240 acres of land sold to Microsoft by the city and state.
In December, Kenosha’s City Council unanimously passed ordinances to attach and rezone the property for the proposed data center. Plans presented then included four 250,000-square-foot, single-story structures. The land was annexed into the city from the town of Paris as part of an agreement.
The multiyear project would encompass the construction of the four main buildings and necessary infrastructure such as utilities, access drives, parking, stormwater retention ponds, and landscaping.
The Kenosha land purchase comes in addition to Microsoft’s $3.3 billion investment in Mount Pleasant, which was announced last May.
