A housing package backed by Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and most of Madison’s City Council is advancing through committees, The Capital Times reports, with council members set to vote on expanding the city’s housing ordinances at their July 15 meeting.
An informational session last week laid out the proposed changes to Madison’s zoning laws. All three proposed policies work toward the city’s goal to increase the types of housing available to residents.
One policy would allow easier development of “deep lots,” while another supports the creation of more duplexes. The third would relax density restrictions for increased building downtown.
All of the proposed changes aim to increase Madison housing overall and bolster the “missing middle,” with structures that fit the gap in size and affordability between detached, single-family homes and mid- to -high-rise apartments.
