The DeForest Village Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to reject the annexation of roughly 1,600 acres of farmland for a data center project, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.

The QTS Data Centers project was a $12 billion project including five data center buildings with a proposed second phase expansion.

The community was vocal in its opposition to the project, citing environmental concerns and a lack of transparency.
