The companies, people and issues shaping business in Madison and the Capital Region.

As gimlet-eyed readers know, businesses make news all the time, so at In Business Madison, we’re beefing up our online coverage to bring you more up-to-the-minute information.

Our staff is out in the community reporting original business news for ibmadison.com, our website. In addition, we’re using social media like LinkedIn and Instagram (@ibmadison) to promote our latest digital stories, supplementing the features, profiles, news and columns printed in our monthly magazine.

We also offer two daily newsletters that distribute fresh, original stories, in addition to compiling local business briefs. Readers can sign up for the free newsletters on our website.

And as we emphasize photography in our pages to bring a fuller picture of the business community in Wisconsin’s Capital Region, we’re sharing more photos in online galleries.

These efforts help us tell better stories about the business leaders, companies and organizations contributing to our local economy and community growth. And it helps us bolster our connections to readers.

Some of the recent online highlights include Joe Vanden Plas’ article on how Madison startup Graceful Management Systems is using AI to help the construction industry reduce costs and improve project management.

Vanden Plas interviewed Graceful Management Systems CEO Tommy Stanek — who was honored with the Rising Star award in technology at our Executive Excellence event this past summer — for the piece.

We also reported from the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce’s annual Pressure Chamber pitch competition, where Strudel, a local company that uses AI to help software engineers resolve technical support tickets more efficiently, took home the top prize.

Company co-founder and CEO Kristin Isaac has now earned the chance to meet with top Silicon Valley investment firms.

Claire Reid, the reporter who covered the event, also wrote short profiles of the four other Pressure Chamber finalists, local startups building businesses around medical devices, wireless power, fighting AI deepfakes and finding housing for traveling health care professionals. It’s a fascinating mix.

And Reid covered the groundbreaking of a massive new housing project, the Triangle redevelopment, which will replace five aging buildings with eight new ones across a 10-acre site near downtown Madison. The project, a partnership between the city’s Community Development Authority and developer New Year Investments, will be built over the next decade.

And there’s more! As we are getting this issue off to the press, Vanden Plas reported on Epic Systems CEO and founder Judy Faulkner’s speech at the company’s annual Users Group Meeting.

These online stories augment the work we do in the magazine, which this month features a profile of the wildly successful family business Kwik Trip, an article on the forthcoming Reindahl Imagination Center, a look at how Wisconsin Public Media is responding to federal funding cuts, and other stories. Plus, readers will find our annual Power 100 in these pages, which highlights the business and community leaders shaping Wisconsin’s Capital Region.
