A bipartisan Congressional effort to bring economic aid has earned the support of President-elect Joe Biden, according to a report from the Associated Press. Biden admitted this week that the package wouldn’t bring full relief but would bring immediate help.
A bipartisan group of senators have introduced a $908 billion approach that would establish a $300 per week jobless benefit, send $160 billion to help state and local governments, boost schools and universities, revive popular “paycheck protection” subsidies for businesses, and bail out transit systems and airlines. Senate leadership has indicated a “spirit of compromise” and said the bipartisan framework introduced by senators yesterday should be used as the basis for immediate bipartisan negotiations. In preelection discussions, Democrats failed to reach consensus and want a more generous unemployment benefit and far more for state and local governments.
