The importance of workforce development has hit home for Asian Sweet Bakery, Madison’s first Chinese bakery, which is closing after 12 years because the owner can’t find a replacement for his longtime baker, according to an article in the Wisconsin State Journal.
Owner Ken Yan said that his longtime baker, Dai Jie, is retiring. She has been with the 900-square-foot store, at 1017 S. Park St., since it opened in September 2014.
Yan said it’s possible that he would keep the store open if he found employees willing to work.
“It’s hard to hire anybody right now,” Yan said.
