Former Dane County Board Supervisor April Kigeya Thursday launched her campaign for mayor of Madison, joining a growing field of candidates challenging incumbent Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway.
Kigeya, who grew up in Madison, launched her campaign with a video featuring questions she’s heard from Dane County residents on affordability, housing safety and other issues she feels are not being addressed.
“People like to call Madison ’77 square miles surrounded by reality,'” Kigeya said in a press release. “But families here know that reality doesn’t stop at the city limits. Madison’s success is becoming harder for regular people to share.”
Kigeya served on the Dane County Board of Supervisors from 2022-2026 and chaired the Criminal Justice Council Racial Disparities Subcommittee.
The primary election is Feb. 16, 2027.
