Madison residents who live in District 1 can now apply to fill a City Council vacancy for the remainder of Ald. John Duncan’s term, which will end April 20, 2027.
Duncan announced his resignation earlier this month, effective July 31. He and his husband are moving out of Madison.
District 1 is on Madison’s far west side and includes neighborhoods near Elver Park, the Meadowridge Neighborhood Center and the Alicia Ashman and Meadowridge public library branches.
Applications are due no later than 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 4.
Candidates will be interviewed and recommended at the Common Council Executive Committee meeting on Sept. 1. After conducting interviews, the CCEC will make a recommendation to the City Council.
The vote to approve the new member will take place Sept. 8.
