The companies, people and issues shaping business in Madison and the Capital Region.

The changes keep coming at In Business Madison.

Over the last year, we freshened up our logo and unveiled a new look for our print magazine. On the digital side, we launched a redesigned website and zhuzhed up our twice-daily newsletters. We’ve also added talented team members on the editorial and sales sides of the business.

Our small and scrappy editorial team has worked hard to raise the quality of our journalism, covering the most important business developments and issues from an objective lens. We also redefined our footprint as the nine-county Wisconsin Capital Region. Critically, we also established a clear line between editorial and advertising — one that had been blurred in the past.

It’s that last piece — a commitment to independent, high-quality journalism — that particularly drew me to In Business Madison when Regional Publisher Dave Neill hired me in late 2024. Neill, who has also overseen our sister publication, Insight on Business in Appleton, had an ambitious vision for what In Business Madison could be.

Now, after a successful two-and-a-half years in Wisconsin, Neill is moving on, headed back to his home in Nashville where he had been commuting to-and-from for long stretches at a time. That was a lot for him and his family.

During his tenure here, Neill pushed the staff to improve our coverage to better reflect the leaders, ideas and organizations that make up the thriving business community in Wisconsin’s Capital Region, building trust and raising our credibility in the process.

And Madison was fortunate to have his expertise. Informed by his 40-plus years in the media business — most recently as the regional president and publisher of newspapers including the Naples Daily News, Greenville News in South Carolina and Citizen-Times in Asheville, North Carolina — Neill helped raise the profile of In Business Madison, quickly establishing close relationships with business and government leaders in the community. The staff benefited from his leadership, as did our readers.

Anyone who attended an In Business Madison event in the last few years knows Neill brought enthusiasm and an obvious appreciation for the Madison area business community to the stage.

And he helped create new events, like the forthcoming Madison Club Leadership Lab. In September, in collaboration with the Madison Club, UW-Madison and ActionCoach, In Business Madison will co-host the inaugural event featuring a prominent Capital Region leader.

Succeeding him in the role of general manager is Amy Hansen, one of those talented team members referenced above. Hansen boomeranged back to In Business Madison in November, having led the sales and marketing department here two decades ago.

We’re grateful for, and plan to continue, the momentum Dave started. And we wish him the best.
