Anthropic, one of the largest artificial intelligence companies in the world, filed papers Monday for what could be a record-breaking initial public offering, according to a report by the Associated Press.
The San Francisco company, which offers the chatbot Claude, could surpass the $86 billion IPO filed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic, has called for slowing the development of AI, but a record IPO would provide the company with vast resources to fuel its expansion.
The 335-page document filed on Monday showed Anthropic has yet to turn a profit and lost $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026.
Yet its value is expected to rise from the $965 billion reported earlier this year to as high as $1.5-2 trillion, which would rank it among the world’s most valuable companies.
Anthropic said it will list its stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.
