The companies, people and issues shaping business in Madison and the Capital Region.

In Business Madison celebrated the capital region’s exemplary organizations and most influential executives during the second annual Business of the Year Awards, held Monday, Dec. 9, at The Edgewater Hotel.

Almost 300 guests and honorees attended a networking reception and awards dinner recognizing finalists and winners across several business categories. Additionally, four new inductees to the In Business Hall of Fame were introduced at the event.

Executive of the Year winner Doug Sina, president and CEO of JT Engineering Inc., noted an award like this is more about the company than an individual, joking, “I try to just stay out of the way and not screw up the good things our team is doing.”

Hall of Fame inductee Julie Bogle, retired principal with BDO USA, said she’s used to giving out awards, not receiving them. “I’m humbled and honored to receive this tonight. There are some incredible companies and people in the audience. … I never expected this, so thank you.”

“I’ve had a dream career,” added fellow Hall of Famer Bob Sorge, president and CEO of Madison Community Foundation. “If I have one superpower, it’s taking good advice from smart people, which includes many of you in this room, my staff and board members, and my family.”

This year’s independent panel of judges consisted of Scott Ducke, Lake Ridge Bank; Rebecca Prochaska, Potter Lawson; and Maiken Westphal, Westphal & Co.
