Wed, August 5 8th Annual Concert in the Park event
7pm 1200 John Q Hammons Drive, Old Sauk Trails Park
This summer’s eighth annual Concert in the Park gets underway at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 at 1200 John Q Hammons Drive in Old Sauk Trails Business Park. The musical celebration will feature the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director and Youth Orchestra Conductor James Smith and will feature a performance by soloist Clara Chow on the grand piano.

The Concert is FREE and open to the public. Come around 4:00 P.M. to enjoy pre-concert activities, socialize and picnic with other Old Sauk Trails Park neighbors.

Children of all ages are invited to try different chamber instruments and experience the joy of music as part of our “instrument petting zoo” prior to the concert. Professor Bassam Shakhashiri and Dr. Rod Schreiner will demonstrate various science experiments in their original “Science is Fun” show. Come learn about combustion, exploding balloons, liquids that glow in the dark, and other scientific phenomena! Enjoy your picnic dinner, watch the sunset in the west, and take in the fantastic fireworks display following the Concert.

New to the event this year, the Keep Wisconsin Warm/Cool Fund is proud to host the “Ultimate Ice Cream Social” sponsored by Schoeps Ice Cream, Madison Gas and Electric, TransCanada, and The Gialamas Company. Designed to give community members the opportunity to contribute to a cause while enjoying a night of music, ice cream and fun; the Keeping WI Cool Spoons can be purchased for unlimited scoops of ice cream for $5.00/adult and $3.00/child. There are over 10 of Schoeps delicious flavors available to choose from. Help keep the HEAT and POWER on for Wisconsin’s most vulnerable, one spoon at a time!

Bring lawn chairs and blankets to set up in the parking lot of Sauk Trails Plaza, 1200 John Q Hammons Drive. Tables seating eight may be reserved for $250. Contact Erica Lynch at The Gialamas Company at 836-8000.

Our Concert food vendor, George’s Chop House, can meet your catering needs or provide box picnic dinners. Orders must be placed prior to event for delivery. See The Gialamas Company website at www.gialamas.com for menu, ordering form and contact information.

More about BETTY VON RUTENBERG SCHOLARSHIP: Betty von Rutenberg encouraged women to seek their own strengths; to dedicate their skills to their community, their professions and their families; and to see, as Betty saw, that there is beauty in everyone. Betty lent her support to many worthwhile endeavors. She brightened a room with her sense of humor, yet never lost sight of what was truly important in life. Betty could easily detect if an individual had ‘street’ smarts or ‘book’ smarts and which would serve a person the most in the long run.

The recipient of the BVR Memorial Scholarship must be a female high school student who shares the steadfast commitment to community and the dedication to others that Betty possessed. The recipient must be a young woman of strong character, initiative, leadership and compassion. Each of the last three years, the BVR Memorial Scholarship has awarded a Dane County graduating senior a $5,000 scholarship in honor of your continued contributions.

Thu, August 27 "Fun-Raiser" and Ice Cream Social to benefit the Madison Speed Skating Club's Olympic Dream Fund
6:30 - 8:30 PM McKee Farms Park Pavilion, 2930 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, WI 53711
Please join us for an evening of summer fun and gratitude! All are welcome. Bring your kids/friends, play at the Dream Park, make a sundae with premium Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, and listen to family-friendly old-time and Celtic music by Madison’s own Moldy Jam. The band members range in age from 16 to 60, and they have performed on WORT and Wisconsin Public Radio! This spacious park has tennis courts, a basketball court, soccer fields, and sand volleyball courts. Madison-area speed skaters will be in attendance to explain their passion for this exciting sport.

Help us meet our goal to raise one-third of the expected equipment and travel costs for the 2009-2010 skating season, which will likely include two trips to Salt Lake City. There will be a raffle for items donated from local businesses, including two tickets to a Brewer game!

RSVP by 8/24 to my email, with number of people, to help us know how much ice cream to get.
Cost: Suggested donation $10 per person ($20 family cap)
